***Word Detectives Activity***
Students will become word detectives and gather information on a word. They will write it, find a rhyme for it, write a word with the same beginning sound, sketch it, and write the word in a sentence.

Common Core Standard: RF.K.3. Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Demonstrate basic knowledge of letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary or most frequent sound for each consonant.

Common Core Standard: RF.K.2. Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes). Recognize and produce rhyming words.

***Cut It & Sort It Activity***
Students will cut out and then sort long and short vowels.

Common Core Standard: RF.K.3. Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.Associate the long and short sounds with the common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels.

***Long Vowel Treasure Hunt***
Students will discriminate between long and short vowels sounds to find the one their looking for to add to their treasure map.
