As a Kindergarten teacher, I know the range of skills and abilities can be broad in a single classroom. This packet is designed to cover a range of writing skills. Based on a Zoo Theme, this packet provides scaffolds for those young writers in your classroom that need take things in small steps. There are also pages for students who have the skills to write sentences on their own.
There are two book formats in this packet, the first has the letter at the top with the name of the animal included, students draw the animal and write about it. There are pre-made sentence strips to get the young writer started: The______ is_____. The ______ has_______. There are also lined strips that students can write on and glue into place on their page.
The second format has a letter at the top and the students can brainstorm as a class, various animals that begin with that letter. Again, you can choose the writing format based on student skill levels.
Both book formats lend themselves to either a whole class book or individual books.
A fun way to make a book is to have all students draw their pictures with fine-lined-felt-tipped markers. You collect the pages, and copy them for each student. Students will then have a "coloring" book style version to color and write.
Great for small group and independent work.
