"In a Garden" a Worm Unit, which helps meet Common Core ELA Standards with science fun!

This unit was created to serve as a science-based, literature-rich unit for first grade students. Though this was designed with first graders in mind, it is easily adaptable to second and third grade students, who will be able to work more independently on the same projects.

The book: Diary of a Worm, a fictional story by Doreen Cronin, serves as a jumping off point for this unit, which also includes a variety of nonfiction books. 

English Language Arts activities, which help to meet Common Core Standards, related to and based on Diary of a Worm, by Doreen Cronin include: 
Compare and contrast fictional and non-fictional stories using a Venn Diagram, Worm's Red Cap a story sequence activity, Wormy comprehension cards, comprehension questions for Diary of a Worm, Fact VS.
