If you teach kindergarten or first grade, you know how important quick decoding skills are to students' success (and benchmarks) on the DIBELs Nonsense Word Fluency measure.

This activity is also appropriate for second or even third grade students who require remediation in their decoding skills.  
 

"Santa's Christmas Cookies" is a fun and engaging game that is great for partners, small groups, and can even be played with the whole group.

"Santa's Christmas Cookies" includes: 60 nonsense word "cookie" cards, and 24 "empty plate" cards.  Students help Santa collect as many Christmas cookies as they can before they get an "empty plate".


This game is super easy to set up.  Simply print all cards on cardstock, cut out, laminate if you choose, and teach your students how to play.
