1 . Print the template on heavy cardstock.
2 . Use scissors or a matte knife to cut out each template. These can be laminated if you like. Fold along the lines. Use a glue stick along the long flaps on each template. Glue the long flap on the left side of one box half to the right side of the other box half, with the tab tucked inside the box. Fold bottom flaps in and glue them into place. Allow glue on boxes to harden overnight before using.
3 . Cut out popcorn and write the skill your students need practice on. They can be used to practice sight words, math facts, blends, digraphs, long or short vowels etc. (I like to put words on labels and then place on the popcorn pieces.) Write POP on several of the pieces. Children draw a card and read the word or give the answer. If they are correct they keep the card. If they are wrong it goes back in the box. If a child picks a POP card they need to return all their cards to the box. It works best for me to set a timer and when it goes off the game is over and the person with the most popcorn wins.
I have been teaching for 30 years. I make many of the materials for my class. I would like to make your job easier by making these materials available to you. Most materials are suitable for grades K-3. I have a wide variety of Smartboard activities and games for centers. I have also bundled my materials into two DVDs that you can purchase for huge savings. They contain all the materials I have made.
