This one full day kindergarten plan provides engaging activities in Integrated Language Arts and Mathematics that your students will enjoy, and a substitute will appreciate during your absence. Activities are simply inserted into your regular day schedule as defined in your general information folder for a substitute teacher. If time allows, some classroom teachers prefer to prepare (copy) and organize the materials the sub will be using. We recommend the sub replace and prepare all items used before the end of their duty day so the plan is ready for future use.

This “Moose’s Loose Tooth” sub plan contains 23 slides and includes a 5 page detailed lesson plan with easy to follow instructions for each activity. The activities are interactive and develop good listening skills. In the area of Integrated Language Arts the lesson begins with a read aloud. Children are questioning, predicting, and building vocabulary as they listen to and make meaning of the story. Specific and engaging questions are provided. Following the read-aloud the class will use story strips to retell the story. The mini book “Tooth Trouble” will have each student labeling, coloring, and retelling the story. Students will enjoy the “Dental Health ABC Order" activity and writing a “Dear Tooth Fairy” letter.   

In the area of Math the class will complete a fun graphing activity, followed by discussion that analyzes and compares data. The “Identify and Add” activity will give practice with adding coins together. The “Healthy/Unhealthy Foods” T-chart will provide practice in sorting. Students will take home a “Tooth Brushing Chart” to record their brushing habit.

Activities in Music and Computer, and Literature suggestions are included in this lesson plan.
