A great end of the year kindergarten or beginning of the year first grade unit! Choice is an element that can increase student engagement and increased engagement leads to higher achievement. This is a unit that I refer to as a unit of choice. The Galaxy Far Away and the Once Upon a Time books and activities cover the exact same Kindergarten Common Core Standards, I just added the element of choice so that the students would be more engaged.

K.CC.3. Write numbers from 0 to 20.
K.OA.3. Decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each decomposition by a drawing or equation (e.g., 5 = 2 + 3 and 5 = 4 + 1).
K.OA.5. Fluently add and subtract within 5.
I am a first grade teacher, but I also create for my Kindergarten son! My units follow the Common Core Standards, but are also fun, engaging, and full of best practices! I believe every student deserves to have a classroom where they can have fun while they are learning. An engaged, motivated student learns so much more!
