Working With Numbers Set 1

This set contains a PowerPoint Tic-Tac-Learn game dealing with Place Value, a set of printables, and a PowerPoint that explains how to round whole numbers.

All numbers used are whole numbers.

Whole Number Printables

This set of worksheets deal with whole numbers.

"Tree"mendous Rounding has students rounding the whole numbers on the trees to the designated place value.

Can You Identify It? requires students to identify the place value of the underlined digit and to give its value.

Delivering Numbers requires students to read the word form and to write the standard form of the number.

Answers are provided.

Place Value Tic-Tac-Learn PowerPoint Game

This tic-tac-toe style PowerPoint show/game has students working on the skill of place value in large numbers. The format of this game gives students four choices to choose from to select their answer. This is a read-only file.

The student will select the square they would like to have control of. If they answer correctly, they will choose the appropriate X or O to claim it. If they choose the wrong answer, the square goes to the opposite team.  Getting three in a row of their letter determines they have won the game.

This activity is great for a quick starting point of a lesson, a review of a skill, and can be used quickly to fill in when necessary.

Estimation--Rounding Numbers

This PowerPoint begins by placing numbers on a number line to show which number the number is closer to.

It then progresses, by explaining that there is a way to round numbers without having to draw a number line.

It teaches students to round the number in the selected place value location and look to the number to the right. The rules for rounding are explained.

Then the students work through problems together, ending with a chance for students to round number to the selected place value by themselves.
