Nursery Rhymes and Non-Fiction: Getting Students to Think, Talk, and Write About Reading is a unit designed for 1stand 2ndgrade students (although I will also be using it with my Kindergarteners by modeling and working together) inspired by Just Read Florida’s NG-CAR. It gets students thinking about reading. They form opinions, evaluate information and justify answers. It gets students talking as they share their ideas with one another. It gets them writing by requiring written response to the texts. It lays the foundation for learning to code text while reading. It is designed to align with the CCSS. Each chart comes with a lesson plan, a response sheet and an optional follow-up activity.
