The writing activity in this file is a story starter for younger elementary students. It is about a rainbow that fell out of the sky. They have to figure out how to find colors to make a new rainbow and they also have to figure out how to get it back into the sky and make sure it stays there. My second graders have wonderful imaginations and this story puts their imaginations to work! There is rainbow paper for them to write their stories on. Before doing the writing activity, you could have students do the 'Rainbow Hunt'. They have to find pictures that are each of the colors of the rainbow and glue them to the appropriate pages. When they finish, they have to put their pages in the order in which they would appear in a rainbow (ex. red, orange, etc). As a class, take all your papers to the hallway or to an empty wall (yeah right!) in your room and make a giant rainbow using everyone's papers. This is a good pre-writing activity because it helps the students see objects that are the colors of the rainbow and sequencing those colors. Enjoy, Enjoy, Enjoy!!!!
