Desktop Helpers- these are great to use while your students are working on journals, spelling work or even math time! I have a word wall in my classroom, but this past year I had many who were visual impaired and could not read it. These also have the abbreviations for the Months and Days of the Week which after Christmas many of mine LOVE to use, but often incorrectly. So, I came up with this to help all students be able to use and spell those words that they write a lot (they are preprimer and dolch words). This was an excellent tool for my students and they LOVED using them. I called them snorkels because of the ocean theme, and that's why I used snorkels around the words.
How to assemble: Print out on paper. I made them black and white so they would be cheaper to print so now you need to go back and color in the color words under the little boxes (ie- under the color pink- color it pink) Get colored Manila folders and glue the first two pages directly onto the folders. The next two pages is where it gets a little difficult. You will need to cut each snorkel out. Now depending on what you want them to look like, you can either do boxes or cut the entire snorkel out. I went the easy route and sent them home in a parent volunteer bag. *THANK YOU DENA!* Now, when they are cut out place each snorkel around the outside of the pages already glued on the folders. Now, you are ready to laminate. Walah! You've got some awesome desk helpers that will last you year after year!
