Working with word families is an effective way to get kids reading and help them learn to decode longer words. This book can be used in a variety of ways, to make learning to read a hands-on experience. This book is packed with word families to get your students well on their way to becoming awesome readers!
These activities fit in beautifully with the new common core standards and are Daily 5 favorites! I use them at my word work station in a variety of ways:
*One of my favorite ways is with Reusable
Write & Wipe Pockets that I bought from
Lakeshore Learning. (You can use heavy
duty page protectors as well!) The kids
use dry erase markers to make words and
you know how they LOVE to use markers!
*I also enlarge the pages to 11 x 17 paper,
laminate, and then put them on a cookie
sheet. The children put letter magnets on
to make words.
*Of course, I also print the pages off...
but instead of having them write on the
paper, I have them use rubber stamp
letters. I also got these rubber stamps at
I absolutely love teaching...I also LOVE creating items to use with my little kiddos so I can keep learning FUN! All of the items I sell on Teacher's Notebook are items I have used in my own classrooms. Because I've taught K-3, I have a wide range of materials to offer. I have been teaching for 25 years. I am lucky to be able to teach with my best friend, as well...the only thing that would make it better, is if our principal would let us knock out one of the walls! She is also the one who encouraged me to sell the items I use in my classroom. My Teaching Style I am a very hands on and creative teacher who hates to have paper everywhere! I guess that is why I keep working to make items that can be used year after year. I teach with the Daily 5 & CAFE method and do lots of writing with my kiddos. We really like to talk, draw, and write... The kids LOVE to hear stories about my life...they especially like to hear about the dirt hill! I also teach 3rd grade math to our 2nd graders...these kids never cease to amaze me!
