Product Description

The Great Candy Corn Race is a great holiday-themed game for 2-4 players that helps students practice reading short and long i words.  Students will love getting to choose a candy corn character for their game piece as they race around and around the game board reading long and short i words and looking for words in their hands with the same vowel sound and pattern.   This is a great activity to use during centers, guided reading, word work, Daily Five, etc.  It also fits in well with the Words Their Way program and is ideal for students in the within-word-pattern stage of spelling.

Students begin with six cards in their hand.  They roll a die and move their game piece that number of spaces.  When they land on a space, they read the word and then look for a word with the same sound or word pattern (CVC or CVCe) in their hand.  If they have a match, they get to put it down in their own pile and pick a card from the draw pile.  Play continues until there are no more matches.  The person with the most matches wins.

The download includes game directions, game board, four pages of cards, game pieces, and assembly instructions.

All you need to do is print, laminate (if desired), and you're students can play!
