Get moving with a game of Scoot as students practice multiplying and dividing decimals and whole numbers by 10 and 100.

In this game of Scoot, students move around the room to answer problems reviewing multiplication and division with whole numbers and decimals using powers of ten. The problems can also be used in a math center or as an extra for early finishers.

Instructions:

1. Copy and cut out cards. Print on heavy paper or laminate if you wish.
2. Lay the cards in a logical path around the room.
3. Each student stands in front of one card with her own record sheet.
4. When you say "Go," each student answers the problem in front of him and then slides to the next problem when you call "Scoot."
5. When all problems are completed, record sheets may be handed in or checked as a class.

Special note:

I've designed the cards so that students must closely evaluate different combinations with similar numbers. For example, cards #1-4 are as follows:

1. 135 x 10
2. 1.35 x 10
3. 1.35 ÷ 10
4. 13.5 x 10

All cards show some form of a whole number or decimal multiplied or divided by either 10 or 100.

32 cards, record sheet, and answer key included.

This game was designed to support the following Common Core Standards:

CCSS.Math.Content.5.NBT.A.1 Recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left.

CCSS.Math.Content.5.NBT.A.2 Explain patterns in the number of zeros in the product when multiplying a number by the powers of 10, and explain patterns in the placement of the decimal point when a decimal is multiplied or divided by a power of 10.
