This is a set of 4 worksheet designed to help students develop the skill of decomposing numbers 4, 7, 8, and 9 using SUBTRACTION using 1" construction paper squares.
Students will glue paper squares into each string of boxes, then write an "X" on some paper squares to show which squares are being subtracted to create different methods of breaking a number apart, and then record the corresponding subtraction sentence beside each tile creation.
This activity was specifically designed for Common Core standard K.OA.3 (Decompose Numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way and record each decomposition by a drawing or equation)
The decomposing practice for numbers 7, 8, and 9 are two pages each. They can be copied separately on 8.5"x11" paper or taped together and copied onto 11"x17" paper. (This is what I did and my kids LOVED doing work on a really big piece of paper.)
This item is also available in a discounted bundled set, Decompose Numbers: The BUNDLE
