Most students will have had experience with personification in commercials and cartoons – even if they didn’t call it that. I have included the lessons I have used to teach personification and some suggestions for how to use them in your classroom. I use short lessons at the end of longer writing assignments to give students a break while maintaining the flow of writing workshop.
These seven exercises are short; each can be completed in one lesson. They can be presented as a unit or stand-alone topics. I have used them in substitute teacher plans. Some of the templates could be set in a writing center for writer’s workshop or for students who complete other assignments quickly.
