For most of the summer I have contemplated just how to fit my calendar routine in with morning meeting while still maintaining the new focus as outlined in the CCSS. Well, I think I have it! This routine will take no more than a few minutes, and the "eureka" moment for me was when I thought like my students for a bit. I realized they would handle a chunk (a week at a time) better than the entire enchilada (full calendar view)! This set includes calendars August-July, and several additional graphing activity sheets to add in where you choose. I am doing Writer's Workshop right after Morning Meeting this year, and this new routine will allow us to get to our very important writing work right away (while still preserving what I think is an important element in getting our day off to a good start)! Let me know how this new mini-lesson routine works for you! Number concepts taught during calendar are definitely CCSS-related!
I am a 17 year kindy teacher with a love for multi-sensory learning! The new Common Core Standards have all of us hopping! To the long list of new materials flooding the market, I have added my CCSS Math Journals. There are four journals that address all CCSS when combined.
Also NEW in my shop are the 12 Month Week at a Time Calendar Journals. Young children learn better when we help them focus on a smaller chunk. Students are directed to think about one week at a time throughout the month, as well as graph the weather. Ordinal numbers 1st-5th help students find each new week while learning another key CCSS concept!
