To work on letter recognition and writing, you can use this fun activity in a literacy workstation. Discovery bottles are a great way to engage students.
Save up empty clear plastic bottles (Gatorade, Powerade, Dasani, Coke, etc.)
Cut out the letter strips included in this package. Then place 3-4 of the strips in a bottle, along with your choice of a filler.
Provide students with the recording page included to match the letters in the bottles they will be using (there are two different sets—capital letters and lower case letters).
Students will take turns maneuvering the bottles to try and spot all the letters. As they find them, they will color the animals next to the letters on their recording page and then write the letters next to them on the line.
This is my third year teaching Kindergarten at the Jessamine Early Learning Village. I absolutely love this age group and love coming up with different activities, games, and lesson ideas to keep my kiddos engaged. I love sharing ideas because I truly believe that teachers are some of the most creative and innovative thinkers in the world!
