Skills: Children will practice a variety of writing formats. They will create favorite lists, forms of poetry with templates, narratives, information pieces like all abouts and how tos. Students will also create letters to their last year teacher and to friends.
This file is a 53 page download that includes My Back to School Writing Journal that I introduce on the first day of school. I like to use it as an a pre assessment of writing skills. Included in the journal you will find making list activities, how to templates, journal prompts, acrostic poems, Haiku poems, riddles, giving directions, animal report, a grammar poem, a shape poem template, a friend interview, mapping, all abouts, and letter writing.
I pass this journal out and let the students know that once they complete it and I read through the work they will then be awared with a prize. The prize is their writing journal and a few other supplies that you will learn about in this download. It is a great motivational tool to get your students back into writing.
This file is aligned with the Common Core writing standards for first and second grade.
