Help your little learners to be able to stretch out words like a gooey s'more and segment the word into phonemes (sounds) using this adorable s'mores- themed Elkonin box lesson, printables and activities unit. I am sure that they will love this and be begging for s'more practice!

The first four sheets are designed as printables for students to write the letter of the corresponding sound. Worksheets like the one shown in the picture are included for two phoneme words (two graham cracker squares), CVC ( three squares), CVCC ( four crackers) and CCVCC ( five graham cracker boxes) spelling patterns for more advanced students. Students write the letter for the corresponding sound inside the graham cracker!

The last four pages are the super-cute work mats to be used when introducing segmentation using chips. You can use anything as a chips- bingo markers, Hershey kisses, or chocolate chips (in keeping with the s’mores theme) or letter tiles. You may want to print these on cardstock and laminate them for durability! The last two have a landscape orientation (so the crackers would fit) but will print fine in portrait layout.

Also included are scripted directions for teaching segmentation to be used as a mini-lesson, for a parent station or to give to your support staff for use with your students.

You may use any word list that follows the spelling patterns. Word family words are great for this!

If you use this as a center or for Daily Five word work, consider using simple picture cards like that of a pig, cat, and nest so that students can practice the skill independently!
