يتضمن مضمون كتاب (الرسم الصيني): تتمتع اللوحات الصينية التقليدية بأنها ملموسة إجمالا، كما أنها لوحات تجريدية لا تحمل مشاعر حقيقية. فالطبيعة الملموسة التي تحتوي عليها اللوحات الصينية ليست بمقذوفات طبيعية سهلة، وإنما دمجت بين الطبيعة والاكتفاء الذاتي لروح الفنان في كيان واحد، وإنما عالم جديد ينضوي على وحدة الوجود. فالمراد الذي يريد الفنان الصيني تحقيقه من موضوع الصورة هو أحد الأنواع التصويرية غير الدقيقة، وقليل من البشر من يهتم باللون والمنظور والتشريح والملمس والحجم والنسب وغيرها من المشاكل، فما يريدونه هو عالم غير مادي يمكنه تلبية أنشطتها العقلية، فالمناظر الطبيعة ليست أهداف تتطلب التقليد الصادق، وإنما هي مواد مستخدمة.
