This is Volume III of Guy de Maupassant's Collective Short Stories, including Graveyard Sirens, In the Wood, At Sea, My Landlady, The Donkey, The Wardrobe, The Wooden Shoes, and Waiter a Bock. Graveyard and sirens are two seemingly unrelated things. One is somewhere sober and solemn for people to mourn for their beloved and the other in some sense represent a frivolous and flirtatious population. Why does Maupassant put them together? With great curiosity, you will unconsciously follow the narration of Joseph de Bardon, the storyteller in this short story, to find how he "comes across" a charming lady in the cemetery, helps the sorrowful woman return to her house and does something insulting her departed "husband." The ingenious and enlightening ending will leave you a deep and unforgettable impression as well.
