本书讲述了：所谓类书体小说集，是指专门辑录说部资料、按类书方式编纂而成的小说书籍，它与小说总集、与小说类书均有一定的交叉重合。在明代，这类书籍可以王圻《稗史汇编》、叶向高《说类》、董斯张《广博物志》等为代表。这类说部书籍的兴盛直接导源于中晚明学术思潮、士人趣尚及藏书风气的转变。这些说部书的选材旨趣体现出资料性与可读性并重的特点，选辑出不少志怪、传奇小说中的珍品；在文体方面，它们融合了小说总集、类书与博物体三种文类之长，并深化了三种文类间的关系。 (The book first defines Leishu novels, which can be referred to as a collection of novels and anecdotal works compiled and arranged according to subjects, viz. Leishu represented in the Ming Dynasty by Wang Qi's Unofficial History, Ye Xianggao's Shuolei, and Dong Sizhang's Extensive Records of Natural History. There can be some overlap between Leishu novels and stories, Leishu novels and novel Leishu. Thriving novels and anecdotal works originate actually from the change of Chinese academic trend of thought, interests of the intellectuals, and prevailing collection in the middle and late Ming Dynasty. The selected material is the combination of information and readability, and quite a few mystery and legendary novel treasures are collected. In stylistic feature, they combine the advantages of stories, Leishu and natural science, and develop a much closer relation between these three.)
