First aired in 1937, The Komedy Kingdom affords us the chance to hear what a typical radio variety show was like in the 1930s and, in particular, to appreciate the wide range of performers who appeared on them. Hosted by comedienne Elvia Allman and featuring appearances by such vaudeville veterans as Morey Amsterdam and Gus Van. The series also gives film buffs the opportunity to hear bit performers like Ben Cooper and Mabel Todd take some rare star turns. Best of all are the musical numbers; you'll delight in the stylish and shimmering arrangements, interpreted by talented singers such as Clark Ross, Tony Romano, and Maureen O'Connor, as well as by swinging musical groups like The Rhythmettes, The Basin Street Boys, and the Hallelujah Quartet.
