This story covers a span of life that encompassed the love for two boys by two young girls. The Book of Julia incorporates the lives of others that were not involved in the tragedy that took place in Topeka, Kansas during a New Year's Eve Party in the year 1942. The main characters never would have thought this tragedy would take 45 years to solve.

During these 45 years, Arlene a school teacher and Jasmine a Japanese concert pianist led separate lives and were brought together though the men they married. Their husbands played a large role in the quest, Jeremy in the FBI and Glen working at Walter Reed Army Hospital. The quest brings Arlene and Jasmine together as quasi sisters. The clues and search to resolve this mystery brings families together to create one very large family which neither women knew they had.
