The protagonist of the drama is an eighteen-year-old girl Electra. She doesn't know her father and, after the death of her mother, Eleuteria, lives with her aunt, Evaristo, and her husband, Don Urbano. Electra meets Evarista's nephew, Maximo (he is a scientist and widower with two young children), and falls in love with him. Yet, she gets to know from Don Salvador de Pantoja that Maximo and herself are children of Eleutheria and therefore siblings, and also Don Salvador confesses he is their father. Heartbroken, she decides to go to the convent, and there she sees the spirit of her mother, which tells that the rumors about Maximo are not true and that she should leave the convent and stay with Maximo.
